Project Description


The Boston campus of MCPHS had been operating a boiler that was sized primarily for operating in winter months, but was vastly oversized for operations during summer months.

In 2008 the college chose Co-Energy America to analyze and design a solution. Based on in-depth technical and economic analysis a 250 kW CHP system was installed. This system offsets the existing boiler’s inefficient production providing heat and hot water for campus facilities. Post installation the college experienced a significant reduction in gas and utility costs – especially in summer months.

Due to the success of the Boston campus CHP, the college turned it sights to the Worcester campus. In 2011 Co-Energy installed a 150 kW CHP systems for onsite energy, heat and domestic hot water. Combined, the CHPs provide over 3 million kWh per year of onsite, reliable power.

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is a health care focused college with locations in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts. The college was in search of energy efficiency and a way to reduce its cost of heating and hot water usage.
